Having a passion for insects and spiders, their interactions are a particular fascination to me. I am currently writing an article on mason wasps - amongst the least pleasant creatures of all.
This particular species makes a nest of clay cells which it packs with spiders it has paralysed with venom. It then lays a single egg in each cell. After hatching, the grub eats its way through its living cell-mates before metamorphosing into adulthood.
There are few things in nature as revolting as watching a fat yellowish maggot sucking the living innards out of a paralysed spider into its transparent pulsating body. How creationists explain their existence I have absolutely no idea! |
